Newcastle United fans fume at ‘disgraceful’ VAR as latest Fulham footage analysed

Newcastle United fans have slammed VAR for the “pathetic” decision to disallow Fabian Schar’s goal during their 1-0 win over Fulham on Saturday afternoon (6 April).

The Tyneside club will still have hopes of qualifying for European football next season after taking all three points from their trip to Craven Cottage.

Eddie Howe’s side left it late to snatch the win with Bruno Guimaraes breaking the deadlock with nine minutes remaining.

Fabian Schar had found the net just minutes before Guimaraes’ strike but his header at the back post was subsequently ruled out by VAR.

Schar thought he had scored his fourth goal of the season after connecting with Anthony Gordon’s cross but VAR officials ruled it out for a foul in the build-up by Dan Burn.

The 31-year-old was judged to have elbowed Fulham defender Calvin Bassey when jumping for the ball.

Newcastle fans on social media were outraged by the decision with supporters calling the incident “pathetic” and a “disgrace”.

Newcastle remain eighth in the Premier League and are now just one point behind Manchester United in sixth.

They continue their push for European football with a clash against Tottenham at St James’ Park on Saturday (13 April).
