Newcastle United fans slaughter Matt Ritchie after what he did vs Burnley

Newcastle United fans want Matt Ritchie to be released or sold after he made a costly mistake within one minute of coming on during their 4-1 win over Burnley on Saturday (4 May).

Eddie Howe’s side overcame their poor away form in recent weeks to pick up all three points at Turf Moor.

The Tyneside club remain in the race for Europa League qualification this season with three league games remaining in 2023-24.

Callum Wilson opened the scoring for the visitors on his first start for the side since February.

Sean Longstaff and Bruno Guimaraes added to Newcastle’s lead before the half-time break before Alexander Isak shrugged off an earlier penalty miss to score their fourth.

Newcastle were cruising towards an 11th clean sheet of the season after a superb performance in Lancashire before Matt Ritchie was introduced as a late substitute by Howe.

Just a minute after coming on, the 34-year-old gave away the ball with a loose touch which led to Burnley scoring via Dara O’Shea.

Despite Burnley’s goal being a consolation, Newcastle fans on social media lashed out at Ritchie with some wanting to see him released or sold.

Newcastle remain sixth in the Premier League table and are now just four points behind Tottenham in fifth after their 17th league win of the season.

The North East side will return to action at St James’ Park next Saturday (11 May) when they face Brighton in the Premier League.
