Dr Dan hails ‘unique’ Newcastle development ‘I’ve never seen before’

It is “refreshing” to see Newcastle United use a third party company to conduct their hunt for a new director of football.

So says finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest boardroom developments at St James’ Park.

The Magpies are searching for someone to oversee their sporting operation following their historic £305million Saudi-led takeover in October.

Per the Daily Mail last Friday (10 December), manager Eddie Howe will work alongside recruitment firm Nolan Partners to find the ideal candidate.

Plumley saluted Newcastle’s decision-makers for their “unique” approach to appointing a new director of football.

“I’ve never seen this before,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“It’s a viable option and you could say it’s quite refreshing to conduct a search in this way.

“Football can be quite insular at times. Clubs go with what they know and who they know. To step away from that is quite unique.

“It’s no different from a small business commissioning an agency to conduct some market research.

“It’s a different way of doing things but it’s something we might see more of in the future.

“You want some football people on the board as well as people who know how the finances and the industry works.

“But there is also a lot of merit in bringing people from other businesses into the sector. That can be quite powerful.”

Newcastle United

Newcastle are battling to stay in the top-flight after winning just one of their opening 16 league matches this term.

They face Liverpool, Man City and Man United in their next three games.
