Newcastle United news: Keith Wyness can’t believe Eddie Howe could quit
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted he sees no reason for Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe to quit and take the England job.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Magpies boss has the chance to build a “dynasty” at St James’ Park thanks to big backing from the club’s Saudi ownership.
Howe has been widely linked with the England role following Gareth Southgate’s resignation last month.
He responded to the speculation on 30 July, insisting there had been “absolutely no contact whatsoever from anybody, and I’m fully committed to Newcastle.”
Howe was appointed at Newcastle in November 2021 and has won 64 of his 128 matches with the club.
Howe will snub England and stay at Newcastle, says Wyness
Lee Carsley has taken interim charge of the Three Lions but the door remains open to a more experienced, permanent successor to Southgate.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I don’t think Howe will get the England job.
“I think he’ll stay at Newcastle, and I believe PIF will back him as much as they can do.
“They’ve given him the best resources they can under the PSR rules and he’s enjoyed himself so far.
“They’ll give him new training facilities and everything he could have wanted when he first arrived.
“Newcastle’s owners and Howe have got a happy relationship and they’ve got a chance at some stability.
“I don’t see any reason why Howe would be keen to leave.

“He’s got the chance to build a dynasty at Newcastle on his own terms, he’s already taken them to the Champions League.
“There’s a chance to bring back the good old days, and that’s a big prize.”
