Newcastle United news: Pundit issues £15m Nathan Ake claim as contact made
Noel Whelan has insisted Newcastle United should be looking to knock £15million off Nathan Ake’s reported £50million valuation this summer.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 27-year-old hasn’t played enough for Man City to warrant a club-record outlay.
As reported by The Sun (5 June), Man City have told Newcastle that Ake will cost £50million after Eddie Howe’s side enquired about his availability.
The Netherlands international is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until June 2025.
Ake, who played under Howe at Bournemouth, made just 10 Premier League starts in the 2021-22 season.
Whelan insisted the centre-back would be a “quality” addition for the right place.

“He’s an experienced, fantastic player – there’s no doubt about it,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“I don’t think he’s played enough football – but he’s at a club like Man City, where there are top internationals ahead of you.
“Eddie Howe worked with him for a long time at Bournemouth, so he knows what he will be getting.
“£50million is a lot of money for a player who hasn’t played too much football. I would have thought that the £35million mark would be a fair price – especially considering his role at City.
“£50million seems steep, but he’s a quality player and he’s got a lot of football ahead of him still.”
Ake cost Man City a reported £41million in 2020.
The 26-cap defender has amassed 170 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 15 goals.
