‘Newcastle United poised for big announcement’ as new arrival heads in

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Jacobo Solis’ appointment to the Newcastle board means a “big announcement” on the club’s new stadium is imminent.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the Spaniard is “very close” to chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan.

Newcastle confirmed the appointment of Solis in a statement last week (9 January).

The PIF executive has already been directly involved with the Tyneside club since their acquisition in October 2021.

Newcastle are expected to make an announcement on their plans to redevelop St James’ Park or move to a new stadium in the coming months.

The Magpies are searching for a new CEO after Darren Eales announced plans to step down due to health issues in September 2024.

Newcastle laying groundwork for stadium announcement, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “He’s a very influential guy and has been handling the European investments at PIF.

“He’s well thought of and very close to Yasir Al-Rumayyan.

“It’s always interesting to see how these networks are set up. He’s a good businessman and also has good knowledge of the Spanish market.

“He’s a very high-quality appointment.

“For me, this is all pointing to the big announcement Newcastle are going to be making about the new facilities and stadium.”
