Newcastle ready to bin Lascelles and two Newcastle teammates after source reveal in last 24 hours – pundit

Fabian Schar, Paul Dummett and Jamaal Lascelles will not be at Newcastle United next season if they stay up, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker delivered his verdict after an update in Newcastle’s pursuit of Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile.

A recruitment source told Football Insider on Wednesday (19 January) the club were set for talks with Monaco as they look to make a breakthrough in their £35million-plus pursuit of the defender.

Newcastle

Newcastle want to recruit at least one centre-back this summer and Badiashile is understood to be keen on a move.

The north-east big hitters are in desperate need of a defensive refresh as they have kept just one clean sheet in 10 games across all competitions under Eddie Howe.

Captain Jamaal Lascelles has come in for particular criticism for his performance in their 1-1 draw with relegation rivals Watford on Saturday (15 January).

Asked what the arrival of a new defender could mean for Lascelles, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think he’s an OK player, he’s a good defender.

“If Newcastle stay up I don’t think Jamaal Lascelles will be playing for them next season, that’s where I see it. He’s not where Newcastle want to go, to be honest.

“That goes with a lot of players, the likes of Fabian Schar and Paul Dummett and a lot of others. I think the fans would agree on that.”

Newcastle

Newcastle have conceded 43 times in the Premier League this season – only Norwich City (45) have shipped more and they have played one more game.

The Magpies are second from bottom, two points from safety.
