Newcastle United rift emerges – Keith Wyness: ‘I’m hearing whispers…’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed he is hearing “whispers of dissatisfaction from a number of groups” at the helm of Newcastle United.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested Darren Eales and Paul Mitchell have gotten off to a poor start after being handed more power by owners PIF.

Newcastle failed to land top target Marc Guehi in the summer window, leaving fans raging about the business conducted.

CEO Eales was handed more power over the summer after co-owners Amanda Staveley and Merhdad Ghodoussi sold their shares in the club.

The Magpies’ only summer signings were Odysseas Vlachodimos, William Osula, Lloyd Kelly and John Ruddy.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “PIF have put Darren Eales and Paul Mitchell in control, but they’ve had a bad transfer window – it hasn’t gone well for this new group.

“The fans are watching them closely.

“We’ll see how Newcastle handles things now that the window has shut – and after the departure of Amanda Staveley.

“But they’ve not got off to the best start.

“I’m certainly hearing some whispers of dissatisfaction from a number of groups at the top.”

In other news, winger’s Newcastle move could still happen.
