Kieran Maguire claims ‘nobody in football trusts them’ as Staveley defies Newcastle rivals
Newcastle United supremo Amanda Staveley is right not to trust the club’s Premier League rivals when it comes to matters of governance.
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the top-flight’s recent vote on a mooted owners’ charter.
The idea of an owners’ charter, which would keep top club officials in line, was introduced after April’s Super League debacle.

Premier League clubs went to vote on its implementation recently, but the Daily Mail reported on Thursday (16 December) that Staveley abstained.
It is understood that she feels that the bill had been adequately researched and that Newcastle had not been furnished with enough information.
Maguire insists that the mastermind between the club’s takeover in October is right to be on high alert when it comes to her contemporaries.
“Newcastle feel very targetted by other clubs in the Premier League,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“To acquiesce to what appears to be a fairly hypocritical act from the owners wouldn’t make sense.
“These other clubs have made attempts to take over control of decision making and concentrate money.
“Why should Newcastle sign up with people that nobody in football can trust? Newcastle can’t trust them. You can understand their decision, therefore.“

The vast majority of the Premier League have also voted to bring in new laws on related party sponsorship which may hurt Newcastle.
All new sponsorship deals must now be ratified by the Premier League to ensure they reflect fair market value.
