Newcastle United lay groundwork for new goalkeeper signing as two stars leave – sources
Newcastle United are planning to move for a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
The Magpies currently have Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka, Loris Karius and Paul Gillespie on the books at St James’ Park but are keen to bolster their options with another shot-stopper.
Pope has been out injured with a dislocated shoulder since December, meaning Dubravka has once again had to resume the role of first-choice goalkeeper for Eddie Howe’s side.
Meanwhile, it is believed both Karius and Gillespie will not have their contracts renewed by Newcastle – meaning both players are set to depart the club in June.
Gillespie, 31, joined from Motherwell in 2020 and has made just three senior appearances for the Magpies – while Karius joined in 2022 and has turned out just twice.

Pope has been the first-choice goalkeeper for Newcastle since joining the club from Burnley in 2022.
The England international has kept 26 clean sheets and conceded 52 goals in 62 appearances for the club, and was crucial to securing Champions League qualification last term.
Dubravka, who is under contract until June 2025, has been at the club since joining from Sparta Prague in 2018.
He has racked up 153 games for the Tyneside club, keeping 44 clean sheets.
The Slovakia international has made 20 appearances this term, conceding 34 goals and keeping six clean sheets.

Newcastle saw their spending limited in the January window due to Financial Fair Play restrictions but will once again have a significant budget this summer.
Football Insider revealed on 3 March that Howe’s side are also keen to sign a new left-back this summer.
