On the brink: Three Newcastle players fighting for their future at the club

COMMENT By Russell Edge

Newcastle United have enjoyed a decent start to life back in the Premier League having picked up the Championship title last season.

Most players look like they have settled in comfortably despite the step up in class, with Benitez getting the very best out of the majority of his stars.

Matt Ritchie has proven he has what it takes to shine in the Premier League, after Bournemouth let him drop down to the Championship to link up with the Magpies.

Summer signing Mikel Merino has silenced any doubts over his ability following his loan move from Borussia Dortmund, and fans will be hoping that his future at Newcastle is a long one.

Even the likes of Ciaran Clark, who raised an eyebrow or two upon his arrival last summer, has shown that he has what it takes to compete in the top flight, carrying on his impressive form from the second tier and establishing himself as a crucial player for the club.
