Kieran Maguire expects ‘high-cost’ Newcastle plan after reveal fans will go ‘crazy’ for
Newcastle United will place special emphasis on “high-cost” tickets when they expand St James’ Park.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the plans for the 52,000-seater Tyneside stadium.
Newcastle co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi told The Athletic last Saturday (26 February) that the new regime will “definitely look at expanding St James’.”

He also ruled out the possibility of moving to a new stadium entirely, claiming it would be “like tearing your soul out.”
The Magpies will look to enhance their hospitality facilities as part of a St James’ revamp in order to attract high-paying guests, claims Maguire.
“Newcastle have to have more seats and more seats for high-cost tickets,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“We have seen that many clubs in the Premier League can accommodate a 60,000-capacity stadium.
“If Newcastle want to be genuine contenders at the top table, fans will go crazy for that. They are going to be an even more popular club.
“It would make sense for them to have a supply of tickets that meets the demand. The challenge is getting the price points right.
“In 2019, matchday income was £25m. That compares to Man City a5 £65m, Man United at £111m, Arsenal at £95m etcetera. So there is a big gap.”

Newcastle have also promised significant investment at the club’s neglected training ground.
The Magpies, who are currently 14th in the Premier League, face Brighton today (5 March).
