Newcastle United tipped to pull off 'outstanding' James Maddison deal after source's update today - pundit

James Maddison would choose to leave Leicester and join Newcastle United if an acceptable offer is made.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On Saturday, it emerged that Newcastle United have had a £40million offer for James Maddison rejected.

On Monday (1 August), sources told Football Insider that the Foxes have slapped a £60million valuation on their prize asset.

Newcastle have failed to sign an attacker this summer despite concerns over the fitness of Callum Wilson and the lack of quality available on the right wing.

When asked if Maddison would consider swapping the King Power Stadium for St James’ Park, Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “I think so.

“Newcastle are a club on the up while Leicester are in a state of demise. Their pre-season results have been poor and there have been no new signings.

“I think he would [join Newcastle]. He would see himself as the main man on all of the set pieces, Trippier would have to step back.

“I think he would go and he would flourish at Newcastle. He is a very good player, I would rather Tottenham sign him than Nicolo Zaniolo.

“In Newcastle’s case, I think he would be an outstanding signing and another homegrown English player.”

Maddison has two years remaining on his contract, after signing an improved deal in August 2020.

Leicester are yet to sign a senior player this summer and need to sell to raise funds for purchases.

In other news, pundit claims Allan Saint-Maximin could be at Newcastle for “six more years” after update.
