Newcastle United to settle for Dan Ashworth compromise after Man United talks today – Sources

Newcastle United are likely to reach a compromise over sporting director Dan Ashworth’s move to Man United following further negotiations on Wednesday, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (19 February) that Man United have baulked at Newcastle’s initial £20million compensation demands for the release of Ashworth.

The transfer guru has agreed terms with the Red Devils and informed the Magpies of his intentions to leave.

He has subsequently been placed on gardening leave at St James’ Park, with the Tyneside club already starting the search for a replacement.

Newcastle chief Ashworth set to kickstart £450m transfer revolution at Man United

Talks are ongoing between both sides and a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Newcastle are likely to “compromise”.

It is believed the clubs are set to meet in the middle and get a deal done – but negotiations are likely to drag on.

Ashworth is under contract until June 2026 and Newcastle will not let him go on the cheap.

Football Insider revealed last week (15 February) that he could have a budget of up to £450million to work with at Man United following a change in Premier League spending rules.

United are keen to make Ashworth the latest part of their overhaul under Ratcliffe and INEOS, who have taken control of footballing operations at Old Trafford.

Former Man City chief Omar Berrada has already agreed to become the club’s new CEO and will commence work in due course.

The Red Devils have spent just over £1billion on signings since the start of the 2017-18 season but are yet to mount a real title challenge in that time.

Ashworth has a proven track record of providing value for money and will hope to change United’s fortunes if his arrival is finalised.
