Newcastle United told to accept Emmanuel Dennis proposal after Everton source’s reveal – pundit

Noel Whelan has urged Newcastle to make the most of Watford’s relegation by signing Emmanuel Dennis this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, expressed his surprise that Everton have exited the race to sign the 25-year-old.

According to Chronicle Live (9 July), Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign Dennis – as well as Burnley star Maxwel Cornet.

Watford sporting director Cristiano Giaretta has confirmed the Nigeria international is looking to leave Vicarage Road but will do so only if an “acceptable offer” arrives – with the Hornets reportedly set to hold out for £20-30million.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (9 July) that Everton are not lining up a move for Dennis despite links to the striker.

Whelan backed the former Club Brugge man to “have an immediate impact” if he joins the Magpies this summer.

“He was the standout for Watford in a very poor season,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“I’m surprised to see Everton pulling out of the race given what a good performer he was.

“Newcastle have got their transfer business spot on so far. They’re going to these sorts of teams and taking the best talent – and I’m sure that Dennis would have a similar effect.

“He scores goals, he creates goals – and that can only be good for the whole team.

“They’re looking at players who can excite the fans and have an immediate impact – and Dennis is certainly one of them.”

Dennis notched 10 goals and six assists in 33 league games for Watford last season.

He is under contract until June 2026.
