Newcastle United told to brace for Sven Botman offers after ‘unbelievable’ development – pundit

Newcastle United may have to brace for interest in Sven Botman this month.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s outstanding debut season on Tyneside.

Botman, 22, signed for Newcastle from Lille in the summer of 2022 and has been a key member of the Premier League’s meanest defence.

The Dutchman has started all but three of Newcastle’s Premier League games this season and is yet to experience a league loss.

Newcastle fought off interest from AC Milan to land Botman last summer and McManus claims interest from top clubs will persist.

“What else can you say about Newcastle’s defence?” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“Three of the four who always start weren’t here this time last year. Trippier, Burn and Botman have all been great signings.

“Botman is the really impressive one though, he’s been unbelievable. They got him from a Champions League team and he has come in and is already one of the best defenders in the league.

“He is so casual in the way he defends and usually that’s a bad thing. But he just makes it look so easy. He’s only 22 as well.

“You just wonder if teams might try and sign him. AC Milan were interested in him and they can offer European football right now.

“I’m not saying that matters but a bidding club might think they are more attractive than Newcastle right now. There are a lot of clubs that need new defenders.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if at least one offer came in.

“Of course, it would be swiftly rejected.”
