Newcastle United told to U-turn on Alexander Isak after journalist’s update – pundit

Kevin Campbell has insisted Newcastle United should splash out on Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal striker claimed the 22-year-old would “lead the line brilliantly” for Eddie Howe’s side next season.

The Magpies missed out on top forward target Hugo Ekitike this month, the player instead completing a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

According to The Telegraph‘s Luke Edwards (14 July), Newcastle were plotting a move for Alexander Isak but have shelved such interest because of the fees and wages involved in a potential deal.

Isak has four years remaining on his contract in Spain.

When asked by Football Insider is Isak was worth forking out for, Campbell, who delivered weekly punditry for La Liga TV last season, said: “I think he is.

“He is a really good player. He is a really good all-round player.

“I’d say like to say Newcastle don’t have to go out and buy a striker this summer but Callum Wilson really struggled with injury last season. He really struggled.

“When he came back he proved that he is a handful for any defence. He showed what he can do. The best ability is availability. Wilson just hasn’t been available enough.

“I could see them doing the Isak deal.

One thing he will do is lead the line brilliantly. Isak is a great all-rounder.

“He will score goals at Newcastle. I don’t think he’d be prolific but I think he’d get into double figures, considering the players they have in attack.”
