Kieran Maguire tells authorities to 'keep an eye' on Newcastle United as transfer details emerge
The authorities must “keep an eye” on Newcastle United to ensure that they are not abusing the loan-to-buy market to circumvent FFP.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ recruitment plans this summer.
Newcastle will make use of the loan market in the coming window to stay within FFP parameters, according to iNews last Thursday (21 April).
The Magpies spent around £90million in January, their first window after PIF’s £305million takeover in October last year.
Maguire claims that Newcastle could use loan-to-buy deals to build for the future without falling foul of profit and sustainability rules.
But the finance expert urged the Premier League to ensure that the Tynesiders are not using the loan market to gain an unfair advantage.

“We have seen loan-to-buy deals work elsewhere,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“Everybody is a winner because you can keep within FFP and the selling club still gets a lot of money.
“My personal view is that the loan market tends to work fairly efficiently in that it gives players the opportunity to play.
“I think the authorities just need to keep a cautious eye on how the system is being used.
“But Newcastle have a large amount of headroom in terms FFP anyway.
“They are very much in a transition phase, so the advantage of a loan-to-buy is that you can recalibrate your financial position 12 months down the line.”
Newcastle, who are on a four-match unbeaten run, face Liverpool today (30 April).
They are 9th in the Premier League with four games to go.
