Newcastle United transfers: Five right-backs who could replace Kieran Trippier as offer lined up
Newcastle United are set for a busy summer transfer window, with movement expected in both directions.
But one priority will be tying star man Kieran Trippier down to a new contract, with sources telling Football Insider on Sunday (14 April) that the Magpies are expected to open talks with the player soon.
Unsuccessful talks with the 33-year-old will, however, force the club into looking for a new right-back ahead of the new season.
Deputy Tino Livramento is well placed to replace Trippier in the near future, but Football Insider looks at five players Newcastle could still bring in to reinforce that area of their defence.
Neco Williams (Nottingham Forest)

Former Liverpool man Williams has been hugely impressive for Nottingham Forest this season, as well as shining on the international stage for Wales.
And according to the Mirror (14 April), the 23-year-old is being monitored by the Magpies ahead of the summer transfer window, along with his Forest teammate Morgan Gibbs-White.
Kyle Walker-Peters (Southampton)
Southampton ace Walker-Peters boasts plenty of Premier League experience with both the Saints and Tottenham, with the right-back also having two England caps to his name.
The Daily Mail reported last summer that the 27-year-old, who can play in both full-back roles, was a target for Eddie Howe, although the Magpies ended up signing his Southampton teammate Livramento shortly after.
Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen)

CaughtOffside reported in February 2023 that Bayer Leverkusen star Frimpong was being tracked by Newcastle amid his impressive displays in Germany.
Since then, the 23-year-old has helped the Bundesliga club lift an unforgettable league title, but unfortunately for the Magpies, he is on Liverpool’s radar, sources told Football Insider earlier this month.
Archie Gray (Leeds United)
Leeds United sensation Gray is enjoying a stunning season in the Championship, with the 18-year-old playing a key role in the club’s push for promotion.
Sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle are among the clubs interested in the versatile midfielder, who has been heavily utilised at right-back this season, having tried to sign him in the January transfer window.
James Garner (Everton)

Like Gray, Everton ace Garner is predominantly a midfielder, but he has also featured at right-back during his brief career so far.
The versatile 23-year-old has particularly impressed in the role for England Under-21s, and sources told Football Insider in February that the Magpies are keeping tabs on the Toffees star ahead of a potential summer swoop.
