Newcastle United ‘will become a superpower’ – ex-Premier League CEO

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has suggested that Newcastle United are on track to become a global “superpower” under Eddie Howe and their new ownership.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed that international fans are starting to become “curious” about Newcastle and their project under new owners.

The Tyneside club are firmly in the race for European qualification again this season after returning to the Champions League for the first time since the 2002-03 season.

Eddie Howe’s side are out of reach of a consecutive top-four finish but are in contention for a Europa League spot with the club currently sixth in the table.

It would mark a huge success for the club’s new Saudi Arabian owners after their takeover at St James’ Park in 2021.

Newcastle fans can play part in club becoming global ‘superpower’

Speaking on the Inside Track Podcast, Wyness has backed Newcastle to become a “superpower” in future years with international fans starting to pay attention to their project.

I think there is a chance that Newcastle will become a superpower,” Wyness said.

Newcastle is a club with legacy, history, personality and the character of the North East.

There is a diaspora of Geordies all around the world who will act as custodians and ambassadors for the club to generate more support.

I think a lot of the international fans are now very curious about Newcastle and their new ownership.

If Eddie Howe gets the right squad for next year then they could return to the Champions League and that will certainly help.
