Newcastle United’s five-man signing plan revealed – sources
Newcastle United are prioritising five deals in the early part of the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (28 May) that as many as nine fringe stars could leave St James’ Park this summer to free up wages and squad space.
The club then announced five departures 24 hours later.
The Magpies’ summer budget has been dented following their failure to qualify for European football in the 2023-24 campaign.
Nevertheless, they are eyeing deals for two centre-backs, a right winger, young forward and goalkeeper in the summer window.
The club are pushing ahead with transfer planning despite putting sporting director Dan Ashworth on gardening leave in February.
Ashworth agreed to join Man United but no replacement has been found at Newcastle – despite lengthy negotiations with Dougie Freedman, who chose to remain at Crystal Palace.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (28 May) that the Magpies believe they have made a compelling offer to Tosin Adarabioyo in their bid to beat Chelsea to a free transfer deal.
Meanwhile, a young forward and right winger are also on the wanted list for transfer chiefs at St James’ Park – who want to diversify Eddie Howe’s offensive arsenal.

Finally, Newcastle are keen to bolster their goalkeeping options after a long-term injury to Nick Pope in the 2023-24 campaign.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (27 May) that Liverpool and Howe’s side are set to go head-to-head for Burnley’s James Trafford.
