Newcastle United’s January priority signing revealed – sources
Newcastle have set their sights on signing a new winger ahead of the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
The Magpies’ transfer priorities have taken a new twist with Sven Botman inching closer to a return from a long-term injury layoff.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (25 November) that Newcastle may relax their pursuit of a new centre-back in January.
Sources say the Magpies still want to add a new defender despite Botman’s return but the Netherlands international coming back could mean they wait until next summer.
Eddie Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell will not rush into a big-money centre-back deal in the new year if it is not considered right for the club.
Both men also want to add to the club’s firepower with the signing of a new right winger and that deal could now take priority at St James’ Park.
Newcastle want new right winger in January
Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy are the club’s current natural options on the right flank but neither player is relied on by Howe.
Newcastle have managed just 13 Premier League goals this term – the fewest of any top-half side.

Harvey Barnes and Alexander Isak have notched four goals each in a slow start for Howe’s side, who sit 10th in the top flight.
The Magpies had a muted summer window, completing permanent deals for Lewis Hall, William Osula and Odysseas Vlachodimos and adding free agents Lloyd Kelly and John Ruddy to the squad.
