Newcastle ‘unlock’ summer transfer war chest with in-person PIF talks
Newcastle United have been hamstrung in recent transfer windows as they flirt with a breach of Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
The Magpies did not make a signing in the January window despite allowing Lloyd Kelly and Miguel Almiron to leave the club.
According to The Guardian (24 February), chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and PIF chiefs have held in-person talks over transfer plans for Eddie Howe‘s squad this week.
The potential construction of a new stadium and training base have also been on the agenda.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has issued an “amazing” verdict on potential plans for the summer window at Newcastle.

Saudis ‘unlock’ new transfer funds at Newcastle, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Newcastle will have discussed how to “unlock” much-needed money through extra sponsorship deals.
Financial Year | Revenue |
2022-23 | £250m |
2021-22 | £180m |
2020-21 | £140m |
2019-20 | £152m |
2018-19 | £176m |
Football Insider revealed on 8 January that Newcastle will report a club-record revenue beyond £300million for 2023-24 after posting £250million the previous year.
Wyness insisted the Saudi ownership have “only just started to maximise” their influence – with the club already more than tripling in value since their 2021 takeover.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Newcastle are also making moves with how they spend money beyond PSR.
“We’ve talked about ways Newcastle have to get money in from sponsorships to increase the amount they can spend on new players.
“I’d be amazed if that wasn’t discussed, planned and unlocked in these meetings.
“Newcastle’s owners bought the club for £300million. In my opinion, it’s now worth anywhere from £800million to £1billion.
“They’ve done a really good deal and they’ve probably fallen in love with the club – but they’ve only just started to maximise where they could be globally and in Saudi itself.”

Semenyo deal is ‘top priority for Newcastle’
Football Insider has been told by recruitment expert Mick Brown (20 February) that Newcastle are eyeing Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo as one of their primary targets ahead of the summer.
Newcastle are prioritising the signing of a right-winger in the off-season despite Jacob Murphy’s performances.
Semenyo has notched nine goals and five assists in 28 games across all competitions for high-flying Bournemouth this term.
