Newcastle vs Man City postponement update as Met Office issue Storm Claudia warning

Newcastle United vs Manchester City could potentially be at risk of being postponed after the latest update from the Met Office.

The pair of Premier League rivals are set to meet at St James’ Park in the 5:30pm kick-off on Saturday evening, but the weather could be about to put paid to that.

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office on Thursday, and Newcastle is one of the areas that falls under its blanket at present.

The clash between Burnley and Chelsea on Saturday is another top-flight meeting that could fall foul of the weather, after some challenging conditions across the country this week.

Eddie Howe’s men are preparing to take on a City side that they haven’t beaten in the league since 2019, but they may have to wait a little longer for that opportunity if Storm Claudia continues to make its presence known.

Newcastle issued warning for snow and ice ahead of Man City clash

Tino Livramento has been linked with Manchester City of late, although he is out injured for this weekend’s clash.

However, there are now doubts that the game will even go ahead, after the latest update from the Met Office on Thursday made for bleak reading.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for snow and ice across almost the entire East side of the country, with Newcastle one of the main areas that falls into it.

The warning is also in place for Friday on Tyneside, which creates a serious risk of a potential frozen pitch for Saturday’s game.

The fact that the game is a late kick-off undoubtedly strengthens the chances of it going ahead as normal, but a postponement is certainly not out of the question if the conditions continue to deteriorate.

Things don’t get any easier for the Magpies this weekend, as they line up against a City side who they have a simply torrid record against of late.

The North East outfit men haven’t beaten Pep Guardiola’s side in the league since January 2019, and that 2-1 victory is part of a woeful run that has seen them defeat the Citizens just three times in their last 40 meetings in all competitions, according to 11v11.com.

That run spell stretches back to February 2006, and given their stuttering form at present, they surely won’t fancy their chances of securing a favourable result this weekend.
