Newcastle’s four-man signing plan revealed after Calvert-Lewin twist – sources
Newcastle United are prioritising signings in four key areas as the summer transfer window gets into full swing, sources have told Football Insider.
The Magpies are keen to improve their rearguard by adding a goalkeeper and centre-back in the off-season.
Eddie Howe and his recruitment staff are also eyeing new signings on the right wing and at centre-forward.
Newcastle’s deal for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has stalled, but could yet be revived later in the summer window.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (24 June) that Calvert-Lewin has informed the Merseysiders of his desire to join Newcastle – with Sean Dyche’s side holding out for in excess of £25million.
It is believed the Tyneside club are assessing potential alternatives to the England international, who remains high on their list.
Bowen, Summerville and Calvert-Lewin among top Newcastle targets
West Ham star Jarrod Bowen and Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville are targets for the right-wing role after Newcastle missed out on top target Michael Olise.
Olise, who was also wanted by Chelsea, is widely expected to join German giants Bayern Munich.
The Magpies are in ongoing talks to sign Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, with Football Insider first revealing their interest on 27 May.
Sources told Football Insider (9 June) that Newcastle are expected to submit an improved bid for Trafford, 21, after their opening offer of £15million was rejected.

Howe’s side are also keen to add a right-sided backup for centre-back Fabian Schar, with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles both out with long-term knee injuries.
Newcastle finished seventh in the Premier League last term but will be without European football next term after Man United won the FA Cup.
