Newcastle’s Guimaraes sends delighted message, Vinicius Jr and Alan Shearer react
Bruno Guimaraes took to social media with an incredibly joyful message after the Newcastle United star was involved with Brazil.
The Brazilian national team has already qualified for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, finishing the latest international window with a simple 1-0 win over Paraguay on Wednesday, 11 June.
Real Madrid‘s Vinicius Junior scored the only goal of the game as Carlo Ancelotti’s side joined Argentina and Ecuador in securing their spots at the tournament, and the Newcastle man was key to the display.
While the 27-year-old notched five goals and eight assists in 47 appearances for the Magpies, he could not get on the scoresheet in Sao Paulo. Yet, he still showed his class in South America.
Football Insider understood in March that Arsenal’s quest for Guimaraes’ signature would be too difficult to work out, but there was an interest from Mikel Arteta’s team, nonetheless.
Eddie Howe‘s side appear set to keep the talented midfielder at St James’ Park over the coming weeks, though the player has a chance to impress on the biggest stage of them all next summer.

Taking to Instagram (11 June), Guimaraes wrote: “World Cup, here we come!!! Very happy. Let’s go, Brazil,” with emojis of the nation’s flag and praying hands.
Vinicius Junior replied: “Vamooooo,” while Matheus Cunha commented: “Reminded me of the Olympics,” and club legend Alan Shearer liked the player’s post away from St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe preparing to build on latest success at Newcastle United
Football Insider verdict
Despite a rollercoaster of a 2024/25 campaign, the Magpies finished fifth in the Premier League table, ensuring Champions League football was brought back to St James’ Park.
Newcastle now have confidence over keeping Alexander Isak and Guimaraes, Football Insider understands, with Champions League football, and rightly so.
Howe ended the Magpies’ 70-year trophy drought when lifting the Carabao Cup against Liverpool, and the owners will want the former Bournemouth figure to achieve even more next term.

Newcastle will certainly need to make more additions to the squad if this is to become a possibility, more so than the signing of Antonio Cordero from Malaga on a free transfer.
Anthony Elanga and Antoine Semenyo remain as top targets at St James’ Park, Football Insider understands, with the club now likely to miss out on Bryan Mbeumo’s signature.
Bolstering the defensive options would certainly be a sensible idea for the Magpies this summer, especially if they are to be competing in the Champions League once again.
