Danny Mills has been wowed by Ezri Konsa and insisted he has adapted well to the higher level with a new Aston Villa deal on the cards.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the former England full-back delivered his verdict after it was reported the 23-year-old is set to be offered a new contract.
The Express & Star report the Midlands giants are eyeing a new deal for the centre-back after John McGinn became the latest Villa star to commit his future to the club.
Since the end of last season McGinn, Tyrone Mings and Jack Grealish have all signed fresh contracts that could keep them at Villa Park until 2025.
Mings’ centre-back partner Konsa could be the next in line after his impressive start to the season.
Before picking up an illness that has forced him to miss Villa’s last two games, Konsa had not missed a minute of Premier League action this season.
“Sometimes players take a little bit of time,” Mills told Football Insider.
“You have to understand it takes time to settle in a new league, a new environment with new players. It’s a different standard and it’s hard to know what expectations are.
“You start to learn that over the course of time. You start to build friendships, relationships within the dressing room and that starts to help you as well.
“This is why sometimes it takes players when they move to a new team in a new league – it can take six months, nine months or a year to settle in.
“He’s firmly established now and sometimes you just need a chance. You get your games and it gives you confidence and those self-doubts start to wain and disappear.
“You go on from there and get better and better.”
