Next Liverpool manager: Luis Enrique odds slashed as Premier League side consider move

Luis Enrique has been continuously linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months.

The current PSG manager reaffirmed his status as one of the best coaches in the world last season when he guided the French club to the Champions League title in style.

As a result, many clubs have been eyeing the Spaniard, with Man United recently being heavily linked to Enrique.

With Arne Slot under heavy pressure at Liverpool, the 55-year-old has also been linked to Anfield. However, the Reds could face competition for his signature.

Luis Enrique second-favourite for Liverpool job

Liverpool’s recent poor run of form has seen calls for Slot to be sacked get louder.

The Dutchman oversaw a 2-1 defeat to Man City on Sunday, leaving the Reds sixth, four points off Chelsea in fifth.

As a result, Football Insider has revealed that Slot’s position at Liverpool could be in doubt if they fail to qualify for the Champions League, something they are not on track to achieve.

Therefore, the Merseyside club could soon be on the hunt for a new manager, and Enrique has now been placed as the second-favourite for the role.

As it stands, the Spaniard is 9/2 to take over next, with Oddschecker confirming that these odds have been slashed.

This comes after Man City were said to be considering a move for Enrique, with Pep Guardiola’s long-term future at the Etihad looking uncertain.

Who else is in the running for the Liverpool job?

Currently, the frontrunner if Slot is sacked is Xabi Alonso at 4/11.

The former Reds star has maintained his reputation in the dugout, despite his short reign at Real Madrid and is considered the clear favourite.

However, there are several potential outsiders, including Jurgen Klopp, Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola, who are all placed at 8/1.

Glasner is set to leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season, with his next destination unclear, while Iraola’s success at Bournemouth has seen him regularly linked away.

Whereas Klopp is yet to return to the dugout since his long reign at Anfield, and is currently the Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull GmbH.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen who Liverpool will look to pursue if Slot is given the boot in the coming weeks at Anfield.
