Celtic have missed out on the chance to sell young striker Moussa Dembele for a mega money fee after his poor form this season, according to Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas.
The Hoops’ 21-year-old attacker was heavily linked with an exit from Parkhead in January and but despite all the claims circulating about his future, he has remained at the club for the remainder of the season.
However his performances have not been what they once were, and he has struggled to live up to expectation, with injuries also limiting his playing time during the current campaign.
Now Nicholas states that the Hoops have let the opportunity to sell him for a possible eight-figure fee pass them by, and insists they would be lucky to get anywhere near the £12million price tage which had been reported.
Writing on Sky Sports’ website, he said: “Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele, the two players you expect to step up in the big games, are both out of form, while Leigh Griffiths is injured.
“Dembele would be lucky to attract another £12m bid with the way he’s been performing.”
Having arrived from Fulham on a free transfer back in the summer of 2016, Dembele made an immediate impact in his first season at Celtic Park, scoring 32 goals in 49 appearances for the Bhoys to catch the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
However this campaign has seen him net just nine times in his 25 outings, with just nine of those appearances coming among the starting XI in the league.
In other Celtic news, there has been a u-turn over the fitness of one star ahead of the clash v Zenit.
