'Loves agitating people' - Nicholas: Tottenham favourite on par with multi-award winning star
Former Arsenal star and current Sky Sports pundit has said that Harry Kane deserves to mentioned on the same level as Lionel Messi after his extraordinary efforts in front of goal.
The England striker has been in imperious form this season, netting at a rate of nearly a-goal=per-game, with 33 strikes in 34 appearances across all competitions for Spurs.
Having now netted over 20 goals in each of the last four Premier League seasons, which have included two successive golden boot awards, there have been debates over whether Kane can be dubbed as world class, with some stating that he has not shown the same sort of performance on the international stage.
However Nicholas insists that the 24-year-old is on par with the likes of world superstar and five-time Ballon D’Or winner Lionel Messi, raving over Kane’s displays not just in front of goal but across the whole pitch.
He told Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday (17/02, 12:00): “We’re starting to think about Harry Kane about is he up there with the Messis – and he probably is.
“The reason for that is because it looks so effortless for him. The mix of goals he gets as a number nine, is quite remarkable.
“There’s a desire in him, he goes left, he goes right, he goes through the middle. He just loves scoring goals. He loves agitating people, without provoking the situation.”
Since breaking through the youth ranks at the north London club, Kane has made 199 appearances for Spurs, scoring 132 times and chipping in with 20 assists across all competitions.
He could make his 200th outing on Sunday when Tottenham head to Rochdale for the FA Cup clash, although he may have to appear from the bench after Mauricio Pochettino confirmed he had picked up a slight injury in the 2-2 draw against Juventus in midweek.
In other Tottenham news, a BBC Sport pundit says the club must not allow Pochettino’s love in for duo to stop them securing a deal for this 28-year-old.
