Nico Elvedi to Leeds: O’Rourke shares ‘£10m’ reveal today

Leeds United want to sign Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the 28-year-old is “well known to Daniel Farke” due to their time working together at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Farke wants to add more defensive options to sure up his back line and has identified Elvedi as the ideal target.

He’s a versatile defender who can play both centre-back and as a right back which would give Farke further options on how to use him.

However, well-placed sources have told Football Insider that a deal is unlikely to happen during the January transfer window.

The Yorkshire giants are more likely to sign him during the summer transfer window if they can secure promotion back to the Premier League, with the club currently top of the Championship.

Nico Elvedi’s price tag could be out of reach for Leeds United

Elvedi is under contract until 2027 and his price tag is currently set around the £10million mark, but that is expected to be too much for the Whites in January.

Leeds boasts the joint-second-best defensive record in the Championship this season after conceding just 16 goals, but Farke still wants further options and experienced players in this position.

Elvedi has featured nine times for Borussia Monchengladbach this season, scoring once and providing one assist.

Football Insider revealed that the priority for Leeds in the January transfer window is to sign a number 10.

Farke wants to bolster his attacking options and bring someone to the club who can link up the play between midfield and attack.
