Nico Raskin excellent, James Tavernier rubbish – Rangers ratings vs Dundee United

Rangers made it back to back wins with a 3-1 victory over Dundee United at Ibrox as they ended their home campaign on a positive note.

This was Barry Ferguson‘s last home game as the club’s interim manager, and he will have been looking to build on his first win at Ibrox in that role in the 4-0 thrashing of Aberdeen at the weekend.

After Dundee United opened the scoring against the run of play through Samuel Cleall-Harding, the hosts quickly equalised through Cyriel Dessers‘, ensuring the sides were locked at 1-1 at half time.

The second half then saw Rangers take the lead as Dessers scored his 50th goal for the club from the penalty spot, before Nico Raskin produced a brilliant finish to make it 3-1 just moments later.

Here is how Football Insider rated the performance of the Rangers squad during that clash with Dundee United on Wednesday (14 May).

Jack Butland – 7

Butland returned to the Rangers XI after a spell on the bench, and made a couple of good saves here.

James Tavernier – 4

Struggled to make an impact and lost his man to give Dundee United the opener. Nice touch to give Dessers the penalty for his landmark goal.

John Souttar – 7

A solid evening for the centre-back who did what he had to well, though his side spent most of the game on the attack.

Leon Balogun – 7

Balogun has been tipped to earn a new contract at Rangers, and he did little to harm his chances here with another solid performance.

Jefte (off for Kasanwirjo, ’77) – 8

An excellent performance from the full-back, who produced a really good assist for the equaliser and regularly looked a threat going forward.

Connor Barron (off for Rice, ’82) – 5

Not a game where he had the greatest influence in the centre of the park, especially when compared with the man next to him.

Nico Raskin – 9Player of the Match

There is speculation about Raskin’s future at Rangers, and he showed why they should be looking to keep him with a dominant midfield performance, capped off with an excellent finish to make it 3-1.

Cyriel Dessers hit a landmark

Vaclav Cerny (off for Cortes, ’80) – 6

Rangers may have a battle to sign Cerny permanently this summer, though this wasn’t his best performance for the club, with a lack of the key contributions he has often produced.

Mohammed Diomande (off for Lawrence, ’77) – 6

Wasn’t all that involved for much of the game, but he did manage to win the penalty that saw his side take the lead.

Hamza Igamane (off for Danilo, ’79) – 5

Despite the attacking dominance of his side, Igamane didn’t pose a huge threat from out wide here.

Cyriel Dessers – 8

A brilliant header to equalise and a really composed penalty to put Rangers in front with his 50th goal for the club, a good night for the striker.

Danilo (on for Igamane, ’79) – 5

Didn’t have a huge amount of time to make an impact.

Oscar Cortes (on for Cerny, ’80) – 5

Brought on as Cerny recieved a warm applause in the final Ibrox game of his loan spell.

Bailey Rice (on for Barron, ’82) – 5

Another senior outing for the young midfielder.
