Nicolas Jackson reacts to confirmed Chelsea exit amid Aston Villa interest

Nicolas Jackson has seen his place in the Chelsea pecking order significantly change this transfer window, thanks to the additions of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.

The Senegal international was Enzo Maresca’s first-choice striker last season, scoring 10 goals in 30 Premier League appearances.

However, after joining the Stamford Bridge outfit from Ipswich Town, Delap established strong form by notching a goal and an assist in four Club World Cup appearances.

Jackson’s Chelsea future was then cast into further doubt when the Blues signed Joao Pedro from Brighton, and the forward went on to score three goals across the Club World Cup semi-finals and final.

However, the 24-year-old still boasts potential, notching a respectable return of 13 goals and six assists across all competitions last season.

Furthermore, the Senegal international previously worked under Aston Villa boss Unai Emery at his former club Villarreal.

The Villa Park faithful will not expect Jackson to be their regular starter next season over the West Midlands side’s Premier League record goal scorer, Ollie Watkins.

Meanwhile, Emery’s men do need another strong option after selling Jhon Duran to Saudi Pro League outfit Al Nassr in the winter transfer window.

Jackson’s potential presence can help Aston Villa battle for Europa League glory next term, as well as providing healthy competition for Watkins for a spot in Emery’s Premier League starting lineup.

Elsewhere, Jackson has been outlined as an ideal Marcus Rashford replacement in a Villa News exclusive.
