Nicolas Jackson reacts to Moises Caicedo’s message as Maresca told ‘send Chelsea striker home’

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has been told to send Nicolas Jackson home, and amid the controversy, Moises Caicedo has caught the Blues striker’s attention.

Jackson has flattered to deceive since his move from Villareal two years ago, with a mixture of poor finishing and a poor disciplinary record frustrating supporters.

Last season, the 24-year-old managed just 10 goals in 28 Premier League starts, as Maresca’s side finished fourth in the table.

For the past two campaigns, the Senegal international has been first-choice striker, but after Chelsea brought in Liam Delap from Ipswich, he looks to have been bumped down the pecking order.

The West London side recorded 2-0 and 3-0 wins over Los Angeles and ES Tunis respectively, but were beaten 3-1 by Brazilian side Flamengo.

The Blues will face Group C winners Benfica in the first knockout round, as they attempt to move into the quarter-finals.

After Chelsea’s progression was confirmed, Caicedo shared a number of photos of himself preparing for his next game.

Jackson liked the midfielder’s post to show his support.

Maresca told to send Jackson home

Football Insider Verdict

Former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official Keith Hackett exclusively told Football Insider that Maresca should send Jackson back to Stamford Bridge after receiving yet another red card for Chelsea.

The striker was sent off just four minutes after coming on as a substitute during the Blues’ defeat to Flamengo.

Lunging at the ball, Jackson went in with his studs up and caught defender Ayrton Lucas on the shin, with the Brazilian left writhing on the floor in pain.

It was only the third game the 24-year-old had played for Chelsea since he was sent off by referee John Brooks in a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United.

Hackett believes that Jackson has let everybody down and said that if he were in Maresca’s position, he would have sent the forward back to England.
