‘Nicolas Jackson’s Chelsea future clear after significant transfer development’

Nicolas Jackson has taken a major step closer to clarification on his Chelsea future in the wake of the latest transfer updates from Stamford Bridge.

The striker endured a mixed season during the 2024/25 campaign, struggling for form and fitness at times throughout the campaign.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have already signed another centre-forward in Liam Delap this summer, with the 22-year-old joining on a deal until the summer of 2031.

That of course, means Jackson faces a battle to remain a regular starter in Enzo Maresca’s side at Stamford Bridge, one he seems to be up for.

Nicolas Jackson wants Blues stay

Even with increased competition for a regular starting spot, the Senegal international still has a contract with the club until the summer of 2033.

That is something he appears keen to honour, and the fact he wants to do so is arguably understandable, not only due to the security it provides.

With Maresca‘s side having just won the UEFA Conference League and qualified for the Champions League, there are plenty of opportunities for the 23-year-old if he stays where he is.

It is perhaps not surprising therefore that it has recently been claimed Jackson does not want to leave Chelsea in this transfer window, and is instead keen to fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.

Now, his chances of doing just that have increased, in the wake of a new revelation around one of the club’s other potential transfer targets.

Chelsea make Benjamin Sesko decision

According to a new update, Chelsea have decided not to pursue a deal to sign Benjamin Sesko from Leipzig this summer, due to his similarities with Delap.

That in turn, puts Jackson himself in a strong position to remain at Stamford Bridge going into the 2025/26 campaign.

Had Chelsea signed the RB Leipzig forward, it could have pushed Jackson further down the pecking order in Maresca’s side.

Such a scenario could have opened the door for his exit, since it would make little sense to have three senior strikers all competing for a single spot in the starting XI, not least from a financial perspective.

A sale of Jackson by contrast would have helped recoup that investment on Sesko, while freeing up funds for other potential signings.

But with this deal for the Leipzig man not happening, Chelsea appear to be taking a stance that they will not be looking for another centre-forward this summer, now they have got Delap in the building.

Given they will clearly need cover and competition to the lead the line even so, that means Jackson himself now looks to be in a good position to start thinking about next season with the Blues.

He may still have to see off the potential threat of Hugo Ekitike and Viktor Gyokeres, but with Arsenal, Man United and potentially Liverpool also in the market for a striker his status has become significantly safer with the Sesko update.
