Nigel Spink has delivered a scathing assessment of Jonathan Kodjia by stating he doesn’t believe the Aston Villa striker has any intelligence.
Summer signing Kodjia has been a key player for Villa since he made a big-money move to the club from Championship rivals Bristol City.
With the possibility that his price tag could reach the £15million mark, Kodjia has delivered the goals for Villa this season despite their struggles on the pitch.
He has scored 11 goals for the Midlands outfit, but that has not been enough for a team that is eight points above the relegation zone.
Former European cup winning goalkeeper Spink was critical of Kodjia and his ability when going forward.
“Do you know what worries me, I don’t think he sees a pass,” Spink told BBC Radio WM. “When he has got players breaking past him when he does get faced up to the goal, I don’t think he sees that pass and he doesn’t make the pass.
“I don’t think he is, no disrespect to him, an intelligent footballer at all.”
Ivory Coast international Kodjia played the full match when Villa beat Derby County 1-0 at the weekend but his performance was criticised by supporters.
At this moment in time, he is the only fit and available striker at the club with his attacking partners Scott Hogan and Gabby Agbonlahor on the sidelines.
Therefore, he is most likely to start and feature as a lone striker when Villa take on Kodjia’s former club Bristol City on Tuesday night.
Kodjia scored 18 Championship goals for the Robins last season and he will be eager to show his former club what they are missing during the Championship clash.
