Leeds United do not expect Eddie Nketiah to be back fit for Saturday’s trip to Luton Town, Football Insider can reveal.
The prolific striker, 20, is making progress in his recovery from the injury that kept him out of United’s two matches before the international break.
But a Leeds source has told Football Insider that Nketiah is unlikely to be in contention for the clash at Kenilworth Road this weekend.
Nketiah is also facing a major battle to feature in the subsequent games against Reading on Tuesday of next week and then the home clash against Middlesbrough at Elland Road on 30 November.
As revealed by Football Insider a fortnight ago, Nketiah has not only suffered what the club termed an abdominal injury but he has also sustained an injury to a more delicate area of his anatomy.
His extended absence not only deprives Marcelo Bielsa of a centre-forward alternative to Patrick Bamford.
But it also throws into question Nketiah’s future at Leeds beyond the January transfer window.
His club Arsenal can trigger a recall clause in his loan if he has not achieved a stipulated amount of match minutes, something that is increasingly possible given his injury absence.
Nkeitah has yet to start a league match for his loan club but has accumulated 430 minutes across all competitions.
This includes 10 substitute appearances in the Championship, which have yielded three goals, and two starts in the League Cup that have yielded two more goals.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club are gearing up for Leeds £9m man January transfer.
