Rangers midfielder Carlos Pena is expected to be reunited with Pedro Caixinha at Cruz Azul and, according to a report, the Mexican side will pick up Pena’s full wage while on loan in his homeland.
The Daily Record report that the Mexicans will take on Pena’s full £20,000 per week wage for the duration of his loan deal to complete his exit from Ibrox.
The 27-year-old has disappointed since arriving in Scotland despite scoring five times in fourteen appearances for the Gers.
The news Cruz Azul will pick up Pena’s full wage has been well received by Rangers fans – with one saying the deal was “good business” for the Gers.

Great deal for Rangers as he’s been pretty awful in my opinion

Great news … think it’s too late to chuck in Herrera FOC?

If true that's a great deal.

The media frenzy and recuperation of wages plus potential transfer fee shows how highly Carlos Pena is regarded in Mexico. Philippe Coutinho is a great example of, just because you failed to settle in one country or deliver the goods for one team doesn’t make you a bad player.

20k per week saved on Pena, spend £10k per week on Naismith loan. No brainier for me. #Rangers

Best thing Pedro Caixinha has done for Rangers is taking Pena back to Mexico 🙌🏼🕺

Pena joined Rangers for £2.2million from Chivas Guadalajara in the summer but has struggled to earn a regular first-team spot with a series with poor performances.
The 27-year-old looked off the pace constantly and couldn’t seem to get to grips with the physical style of Scottish football.
The midfielder was filmed arriving in Mexico City by Cruz Azul and is expected to undergo a medical before formalising his return to his homeland.
With a World Cup rapidly approaching, the 19-times capped Pena will hope to impress national team boss Juan Carlos Osorio and win a spot in his 23-man squad for this summer’s finals in Russia.
In other Rangers news, the Gers have tabled a six-figure bid for this international attacker.
