'No point in shouting' - Murty delivers verdict on Rangers howler in win v Ayr

Rangers manager Graeme Murty has revealed he has “no problem” with Wes Foderingham after the goalkeeper’s awful mistake gifted Ayr United the lead in the Gers’ 6-1 win over the League One high-flyers – and admitted there was no point in shouting at the shot-stopper over it.
Foderingham made a complete mess of a simple back pass from David Bates by trying to shift the ball more central only to lose out to Ayr’s Alan Forrest who tapped the ball home from a yard out.
The Gers number one made a second mistake shortly afterwards but avoided being punished after Ayr failed to capitalise when he came out and missed a cross.
Murty insists he is “comfortable” with Foderingham having the ball at his feet despite his cock-up and was “confident” the Gers would turn things around.
“I’ve got no problem with Wes,” Murty said as quoted by BT Sport.
“If we’re going to play out from the back and shift the ball then he’s going to have the ball at his feet. I’m comfortable with that – although I don’t want it happening too often.
“Wes was fine at half-time; these things happen in football – there was no point in shouting or berating him.
“He knew he put us in a hard situation but he’s a big guy who takes responsibility. I was confident we had enough to quality on the pitch and bench to get ourselves back into it.”
Goals from Jason Cummings and Jamie Murphy added to doubles from Josh Windass and Alfredo Morelos booked the Light Blues’ place in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup after the win over Ayr.
Murty’s side now welcome Championship Falkirk to Ibrox in the last-eight next month as they look to lift the club’s first major trophy since winning the Scottish Premiership in 2011.
Gers fans need to go back to 2009 for the last time their side lifted the Scottish Cup when Nacho Novo scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over the Bairns at Hampden.
