Noel Whelan has claimed there is “no way” Alfredo Morelos will be ruled out for Rangers against Kilmarnock despite picking up a knock versus Lech Poznan.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Aberdeen and Leeds United striker has insisted that both the Colombia international and Steven Gerrard will want him named in the starting XI for Sunday’s clash.

Speaking to the media on Friday morning, Gerrard confirmed that Morelos, as well as Ryan Jack, had both taken kicks in Thursday’s win over Lech Poznan and would be assessed for injuries.

Morelos, who was left as an unused substitute for last weekend’s win over Livingston, came off the bench to score the only goal against the Polish outfit.

Morelos has insisted that the 24-year-old will do everything he can to make sure he returns to the starting XI against Killie and that there is “no chance” he will not be included among the squad.

Whelan told Football Insider: “He’ll be fine, he scored a goal, trust me, he’ll be available for the next game. Don’t you come and tell me that a player that’s just scored a goal in Europe is going to be sitting in the stands watching. Absolutely no chance.

“No chance from Steven Gerrard because he knows what goals do for strikers and he’s got a big game coming up against Kilmarnock. He’s going to want every single player that’s going to get a victory out there.

“Whether he’s on the bench, he’ll be in the squad and he’ll be raring to go. He’ll be hungry because getting goals is everything that strikers want. There’s no way he’s going to say he’s injured. He’ll be available and he’ll be wanting to start the game, trust me.”

Morelos has scored six goals and chipped in with four assists in 14 appearances this season, with 11 of those coming among the starting XI.
