Frank McAvennie insists that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos does not deserve a new contract at Ibrox after another summer of intense transfer speculation.
The former Celtic and St Mirren forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, is adamant that the 24-year-old will be linked with a host of clubs again in January regardless of whether he signs a new deal.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday that Morelos and his representatives are, in an unexpected move, seeking an improved contract as reward for staying at Ibrox this season.
Club across Europe were linked with a move for the Colombia international this summer, including Lille, AC Milan, Newcastle, West Brom, Everton and West Ham.
However, the striker remained at Ibrox beyond last week’s international transfer deadline and is expected to start the first Old Firm clash of the 2020/21 campaign on Saturday.
When asked by Football Insider if he believed Morelos was deserving of a new and improved deal, McAvennie said: “He does not deserve a new contract.
“Every year, every window there is talk of a move away. There is only a few months before the transfer window reopens and he will be getting linked with every other club.
“If he got a new contract then Rangers would want to demand more money for him and would he want that? I do not know if they will offer him a new contract.”
