‘Nobody saw this coming’ – Arne Slot sack verdict emerges after Liverpool fans rage

Arne Slot remains at risk of the sack at Liverpool after their recent return to form stuttered again in clashes with both Leeds and Fulham.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that their inability to cling on to results is becoming a major concern.

This comes after Liverpool drew 2-2 with Fulham last time out, with Harrison Reed equalising just minutes after Cody Gakpo thought he had won it in the 94th minute.

Despite a recent turnaround in form, with three wins in their last five, sections of Liverpool fans have called for Slot’s sacking amid lingering concerns.

While there is no immediate expectation that the boss will be sacked, and his position is stronger than it was during their nightmare run, he is not out of the woods yet.

Arne Slot still facing sack threat at Liverpool

Brown told Football Insider last month that Liverpool are unlikely to sack Slot and hope he will continue the positive work he has done since arriving in 2024.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience working closely alongside elite-level managers including Sir Alex Ferguson for over a decade at Man United, insisted that the boss must find some consistency if he wants to ease the pressure.

Liverpool are being patient with Slot and hoping things pick up,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve had a major shock to the system this season, nobody saw this coming on the back of being champions last year, so it’s a tough situation.

“Nobody can quite put their finger on one definitive reason for their struggles.

“You keep thinking, ‘they’ll play their way through it and come back soon’, but that’s not happening.

“They keep getting results like the one against Leeds at home, or against Fulham where you’re throwing away leads after the 90th minute, and that’s a major concern.

“If you can’t grind out wins from a position like the one they were in, it’s definitely a worry.

“So this pressure on Slot and suggestions he could get sacked are sitting over them like a low cloud when you know it’s going to rain you just don’t know when.

“He needs to start putting runs of wins together because the feeling there isn’t quite right at the moment and that’s the only way to get rid of that feeling.”

Could Slot follow Ruben Amorim and Enzo Maresca out?

Amid the ongoing pressure on Slot, the Liverpool boss is second-favourite to be sacked next, only behind relegation-threatened West Ham’s Nuno Espirito Santo.

This comes at a time where major changes are taking place across the Premier League, as Ruben Amorim was sacked by Man United and Enzo Maresca quit Chelsea.

Both clubs have been pushed into big changes mid-way through the season despite initial plans for both managers to be backed well into the future.

Now, there are growing calls among sections of Liverpool fans for their club to follow suit in what has been an extremely turbulent season so far at Anfield.

The Reds must now travel to the Emirates to face league leaders Arsenal on 8 January, and another defeat will only add to the pressure on Slot’s position.
