Noel Whelan slams Leeds duo in wake of defeat to Huddersfield
By Alex Stevens
Noel Whelan has slammed Souleymane Doukara and Hadi Sacko for their inconsistency in the wake of Leeds’ derby defeat to Huddersfield.
Former Leeds striker Whelan picked out Doukara as one man who underperformed in the 2-1 loss at the John Smiths Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The 25-year-old started on the left wing for Garry Monk’s side but lasted only 62 minutes before being replaced by deadline day signing Alfonso Pedraza.
Sacko, who had been a first-team regular for most of this season, was omitted from the matchday squad, with Stuart Dallas selected to start on the right flank.
Dallas also did not last the match, as he was replaced by the other deadline day signing Modou Barrow at the 75-minute mark.
BBC pundit Whelan explained in the immediate aftermath of the game why the likes of Sacko and Doukara are so unreliable.
“Sacko can blow hot and cold, as can Doukara – you don’t know which one is going to turn up,” said Whelan to BBC Radio Leeds, as quoted by the BBC Sport matchday blog on Sunday (2.21pm).
“Doukara won some headers, took people on, linked-up well at times – but he didn’t do it enough. Barrow might have been a better choice but they didn’t use him enough.”
Sacko has made 30 appearances in all competitions for Leeds this season, scoring two goals and supplying four assists.
Doukara has made a growing impact in recent and is the club’s second top scorer with five goals in all competitions, all of which have come in the Championship.
