'Nonsense...' - Villa Exclusive: Hutton rubbishes Merson's claim about Grealish
Alan Hutton has slammed Paul Merson’s “nonsense” claim that Jack Grealish doesn’t trust or rate his Aston Villa teammates.
The former Villa and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, hit back at the comments of his fellow former Villa star.
Merson says that the 24-year-old tries to take on “too much” responsibility out on the pitch, suggesting he lacks faith in his teammates’ ability.

“I think he doesn’t trust the players and he’s trying to be the school captain at the moment and do everything,” Merson told Sky Sports.
However, Hutton insists that Merson has got it wrong about his former teammate, insisting it is the midfielder’s desire to win that has led to him being the Villans’ talisman.
“Of course he trusts the players round about him, the thing with Jack is he’s an absolute winner, whether it be in training or games,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“He’s now the captain so he gets frustrated in terms of when he’s playing a game and they’re getting beat – that’s just the way he is, the way he’s built, he’ll go searching for the ball.
“I see where Paul Merson’s going as in Jack, it kind of seems he has to do everything but that’s just the way he is as a player, he wants to win, he wants to help players. If the midfield’s not getting on the ball, he’ll drop back in to try and get it.
“It’s not that he doesn’t trust them, he just wants to win. Of course he trusts his players, I just think that’s nonsense. He’s been amazing this season, he’s been the main man.”
Grealish has nine goals and eight assists under his belt this season, establishing himself as one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League.
He has come through the youth ranks at Villa, with a total of 177 appearances for his boyhood club.
