Injury expert: Norwich star Kabak may be suffering 'fatigue' and 'weight loss'

There is a possibility that sidelined Norwich City defender Ozan Kabak could be experiencing “fatigue” and “weight loss”.

So says injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Norwich confirmed in a team news statement on 6 November that Kabak is struggling with “glandular fever”.

The 21-year-old defender, who is on loan from Schalke, missed the subsequent 2-1 win away to Brentford before the international break.

Kabak, who has 13 caps for his country, was also not available for selection for Turkey’s World Cup qualifiers against Gibraltar and Montenegro.

But Dinnery predicts that Kabak will return to action against Southampton on 20 November provided he has not experienced severe symptoms.

“In most cases, there aren’t many serious side effects,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“We are looking at fatigue mainly. It’s small margins in the Premier League and you need to be at optimum levels when you perform.

“I think I would expect him back on the training pitches, back and ready for game week 12.

“But with that being said, there can possibly be issues with the severity of the illness.

“If your sore throat is particularly bad, you might not be able to get food down your neck. That can in turn lead to weight loss.

“But if you make sure he stays hydrated and get him back as soon as possible, there shouldn’t be too many issues with his fitness.”
