Danny Mills claims that Everton striker Moise Kean is suffering from a severe lack of confidence and that he will be axed from the starting XI against Tottenham on Sunday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds and England full-back says that the Italian striker looked bereft of self-belief in the Toffees’ League Cup win over Watford, finding himself named in a strong attacking line-up by Marco Silva.
Defender Mason Holgate opened the scoring for Everton against the Hornets before Richarlison, who joined Kean and Dominic Calvert-Lewin as part of a front three, wrapped up victory late on.
Mills says that the summer signing from Juventus did not look confident in attack and suggests he is set to be dropped when Tottenham visit Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
Mills told Football Insider: “I think you can tell that Moise Kean is lacking a little bit of confidence, a little bit of belief.
“There was one in the first half where he got into a good position, had the opportunity to go out wide and get a shot but he maybe took it a little bit too early and the defender got the block.
“I’m not convinced that Kean will start the game on Sunday.”
Kean has played 11 times for Everton since arriving from Juventus but the international striker has yet to find the back of the net for Marco Silva’s men.
His only notable contribution during his time on Merseyside has been an assist in the club’s 3-2 win over Wolves back at the start of September.
In other Everton news, Danny Mills has been left raving over an ‘Unselfish’ Toffees star who has “had his critics.”
