'Man up or ship out' - Celtic fans react as 25-year-old gives update on future

By Will Butcher

Celtic fans on Twitter are happy to see Erik Sviatchenko leave the club in the summer after he complained of a lack of game time.

The defender told Danish news outlet BT that the situation is not “ideal” and he would be looking to “deal with it” in the near future in order to maintain regular first-team football.

Sviatchenko, 25, has fallen down the pecking order under manager Brendan Rodgers since the turn of the year following the resurgence of Belgium international Dedryck Boyata.

Boyata has teamed up with Croat Jozo Simunovic, leaving Sviatchenko to warm the bench on Parkhead with the summer transfer window looming.

The Sun claimed in January that Premier League duo Leicester and Southampton were considering moves for the Hoops’ number 28, but the Denmark star decided to remain.

Celtic fans reacted on Twitter by stating they would be happy with the sale of the former FC Midtjylland centre-back, with manager Brendan Rodgers set to remould his squad in the coming months.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Making 38 appearances in all competitions for the Glasgow giants this season, Sviatchenko has helped his side keep 18 clean sheets as well as scoring one solitary goal against Ross County.

In other Celtic news, this midfielder struggled against Partick according to Rodgers.
