'Not impossible' - Lineker fails to rule out shock over end of season at Liverpool
Former England star and current broadcast pundit Gary Lineker has failed to rule out the major shock of Liverpool potentially finishing fourth come the end of the season.
The Reds currently sit third in the Premier League table with two games left to play, with Tottenham a point behind and with a game in hand over Jurgen Klopp’s side.
After an impressive season, which has seen the Anfield outfit reach the Champions League final and star with their attacking play, Lineker admits he feels would be a shock if Spurs were to overhaul them, but admitted it was not out of the realms of possibility.
Replying to a tweet which said there was “no chance” Liverpool would finish fourth, Lineker put on his personal Twitter account: “Agree it’s very unlikely but not impossible.”

Football Insider verdict
While Liverpool have been outstanding this season, Lineker is all wrong in his verdict. Spurs have a game in hand and much easier fixtures to come, playing both West Brom and Newcastle this week, while the Reds have to face Chelsea before meeting Huddersfield on the last day of the season. Both sides deserve recognition for the way they have played during the campaign and to have two young, exciting sides fighting it out for a top four spot is great to see. Will either side be able to push for a top two finish this time next year? If Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane keep their sensational form up then there is no reason why they cannot challenge, although overcoming Manchester City will be a mammoth task for even the two star attackers, while Manchester United have succeeded without impressing all that much. It bodes very well for the neutral.
