Noel Whelan has urged Marcelo Bielsa to axe Kiko Casilla and reinstate Illan Meslier to the side as Leeds United host Charlton Athletic tomorrow.
The former Leeds and Coventry striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, wants a full strength side at Elland Road “enjoying the moment” and upholding the integrity of the league.
The game may not hold much significance for the Whites with the title already secured but their opponents are deep in a relegation battle and the result will have huge significance on a number of teams.
Casilla made his first start after an eight-game ban for racism against Derby County on Sunday as Bielsa rang the changes at Pride Park.
However, Whelan has called for Meslier, 20, to return to the side along with Leeds’ other big names.
“I want to see Meslier in goal,” he told Football Insider. “I would like to see a full strength side out, really enjoying that moment.
“They have had a bit of time to celebrate and a bit of time to get some training under their belt and they deserve to walk out on that final day, where the trophy will be lifted.
“They are not there just for the party, they are going to be there to win. You do not want to turn up at your own party and not get the girl!
“You pay respect to the league itself and the teams that are battling relegation. Lee Boywer, ex-Leeds but we are professionals and we have integrity to hold up in the league. As champions you show your professionalism, character and do your job.”
