‘Not top level’: The brutal verdict on Guglielmo Vicario that could trigger a Tottenham transfer to Inter Milan

Guglielmo Vicario is considering his future at Tottenham and could be tempted to make a move back to Italy in the summer amid interest from Serie A clubs.

The 29-year-old has been widely criticised for his performances in what has been a dismal season so far in North London, and is now likely to move on when the window opens.

Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the goalkeeper is “already” looking ahead to the summer despite what will be a crucial end to the season for Tottenham.

With 11 Premier League games remaining, Igor Tudor‘s side are just four points above the relegation zone, making every game a must-win from now on.

However, interest from the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus are expected to turn Vicario‘s head with a move growing increasingly likely whether or not Spurs suffer relegation.

Guglielmo Vicario plotting Tottenham exit

Football Insider revealed that Tottenham have opened the door for Vicario’s exit after Inter Milan joined the race to tempt him back to Italy.

Ongoing frustrations with Spurs’ performances, the atmoshpere around the club, and criticisms of his performances could tempt the goalkeeper to move on.

I think some of these Tottenham players are already looking to leave,” Brown told Football Insider.

“They’ve been struggling down the wrong end of the table, and these are players who want to be playing in Europe, not fighting against relegation.

“Vicario is one of them, I think he’s looking at a move back to Italy where I’m told there is interest in him and he is keen to go back to his home country.

“Tottenham fans have been very critical of him this season and he hasn’t been at his best by any means, and he is aware that he hasn’t been at the required level.

“If he’s got it in his head that he hasn’t quite done it at Spurs, and the club don’t feel he’s been good enough, there is every chance he could move on.

“The interest in him from clubs like Inter Milan, for example, will definitely be appealing.

“So at the end of the season, when the transfer window opens, I expect he will be hoping somebody makes a move for him and he can move on.”

Tottenham lining up Vicario replacement after exit news

Football Insider exclusively revealed in December that Tottenham are planning to sign a new goalkeeper to replace Vicario come the end of the season.

Thomas Frank was believed to be a big admirer of the Italy international despite his disappointing displays, but his departure could pave the way for him to move on.

Sources say that while it would have proved difficult to land a replacement in January, Spurs are eyeing a number of options ahead of the summer window.

The likes of Man City’s James Trafford and Sunderland’s Robin Roefs have been linked with a move to North London as part of their plans to strengthen in goal.

Vicario’s disappointing displays have forced the Tottenham recruitment team to assess their options, and swapping him for a replacement is now part of their plans.
